If you have genealogical software, the easiest thing is to download keithplus.ged. That way, you will have all the information we have and can select the descendants of any named individual. It may help to know their individual identification numbers. For example:
To download the file keithplus.ged, click on: http://www.ludlowfamilytree.org/keithplus/keithplusged.exe.
This will download a self-extracting file, keithplusged.exe, and clicking on that will release the file keithplus.ged which can be be imported into your genealogy program. From 2 Nov 2005, I have used version numbers so the file released on that day would be ‘keithplus051102.ged’.
There is no other way for you to get all of the information in this file. However, the individual pedigrees (Shrewsbury, Hill Deverill and Shipton Moyne) have been extracted and files for these can be downloaded, as explained in the next section.
If you don’t have genealogical software, you can download files for the individual families. These may not be as up to date as the master files, but several formats are available:
These files will soon be available for each of the following families:
Descendants of Nicholas de Ludlow, Nicholas was wool merchant to Edward I.

George Ludlow of Hill Deveril (died 1580) married Edith Windsor (or Wyndsore) and she was descended from Edward I, King of England. As a result everyone descended from George Ludlow is also descended from Edward I, and earlier kings of England. Edith was also descended from numerous Norman magnates, including Earls of Oxford, Devon, Lincolnshire and Essex. The evidence for this is very strong and was presented by Colket [1], Seversmith [2] so I have entered these ancestors into the database ‘keithplus.ged’..
Just for fun, I have gone further. The Guinness Book of Records (1971)[3] gives the 49 Ascendants of H.R.H. The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, extending back to the 5th Century, AD. Why shouldn’t some of us trace back the same distance? So I have added the 28 generations before Edward I to the database ‘keithplus.ged’.
One of our contributors is Bob Amos, who is definitely descended from George Ludlow and his wife, so I have used the database to chart his ancestors for 50 generations. Click on www.ludlowfamilytree.org/royallinks/amos.htm to see his ancestors.
You can download the Bob’s ancestors by clicking on your browser’s menu bar: File > Save As.
For more detail, click on www.ludlowfamilytree.org/royallinks/royallinksweb/index.htm. You will start with Edward I and you can navigate down to George Ludlow and Edith Windsor, or up from Edward I to find his ancestors. Then you can browse up the other branches of the family.
The web pages would take a long time to download, so they are bundled into a self-extracting compressed file which can be downloaded by clicking on: www.ludlowfamilytree.org/royallinks/royallinksweb.exe.
This will download a directory, royallinksweb, with about 133 files. To use it, go into the directory and click on the file called ‘index.htm’. For regular use, it is wise to create a short cut to ‘index.htm’ which can be put onto your desk top.
The database ‘keithplus.ged’ includes all of this informaation, so there is no need to download it separately.
